Atma and Paramatma

Lots of people when hears the word 'Atma', the foremost thought that crosses their mind is fear because the meaning of this word has been manipulated due to misinformation. To understand the concept of 'Atma' and 'Paramatma' we need to trace its ancestry.
Atma- The word Atma is a Sanskrit word which is mentioned multiple times in different Indian religious texts.
Meaning- Atma is another word we employ for the soul, In Hindi texts, the word is explained more deeply. According to this concept Atma presents inside every living being on earth from humans to plants.
To understand this concept more we need to learn one more interrelated word
Jivatma- Jivatma is a term described in Hinduism. The jiva is a living being or any force fuses with a life force. It is an individual soul, a soul present inside a living being, it is an essence of that particular life.

Paramatma- word Paramatma traces its origin from the same Indian religious texts.
Meaning- Paramatma is a supreme soul.  Every soul is part of the supreme soul, if the soul is the essence of life for an individual, the supreme soul is the essence of life for every individual soul on earth. Paramatma or supreme soul is like an ocean and Atma or jivatma is like a drop of water. Everydrop has a life circle and in the end, it becomes one with the ocean again and in Hindu traditions, it is a final destination which Atma reaches after lots of birth cycles depending on the karma of that individual this concept is known as Moksha in Hindu tradition.
Paramatma is a word we use as a synonym for God. Atma is immortal that's why there is a popular quote in Hindu religion that "God is inside us, we are all part of God".
Because life emerges from the single source and that source is Paramatma. To understand it more simply let's discuss one more example. We all are different vessels but water inside us comes from the same source or same river.
